The Great Maths Race 2016

By Katie, Tom, Emma and Ben
On the 21st June 2016, a team of 4 year 4 & 4 year 5 children took part in the great maths race at Walthamstow hall school, where fourteen schools competed to win the maths shield.
The year 4 team was Lucy, Lennon, Toby and Eve and the year 5 team was Emma, Tom, Katie and Ben.
The race consisted of 20 maths questions/ problems which had to be answered within 30 minutes.  There were varying degrees of difficulty and it was possible to pass on any question to get the next one, but you couldn’t have that question back!  So we had to make very careful judgements.
The year 4 team came joint 3rd and were very close to coming 2nd but unfortunately they were just overtaken.
The year 5 team drew in first place and had to go in for the tiebreaker. On their 3rd attempt they finally got the correct answer before the other school did.
The year 5 team are the first team from SPS to win!
