Foundation Stage and KS1 Christmas Party
The John Lewis Christmas advert has had its first showing, Bluewater is already festooned with decorations and the tuneful renditions of various carols have started to emanate from the main hall. The festive season may start early in a primary school but personally, I love it!
The sense of excitement and wonder remains with the children and their enthusiasm is infectious.
My very last Christmas Fair is just over a week away and we have reintroduced the Festival of Trees, which has to be my favourite event of the season, on the 13th December. There will also be the various nativities, carol services, Christmas lunch and parties to enjoy. I do hope you will be able to join us for some of the events over the next few weeks.
You can tell it is time to leave when you look back at the previous year’s newsletter and realise that the content is the same!
Festival of Trees – 13th December 4.30-6.30pm
For those new to the school, you are in for a treat! The event is very straight-forward: each class decorates a Christmas tree and, during the evening, the children and parents will have an opportunity to enjoy a winter wonderland.
Mrs Potter (Attendance Officer and secret SPS elf) will produce a quiz for the children, involving them searching for clues hidden in each tree. The choir will be performing throughout the evening and refreshments will be available in the Dining Hall.
There will also be an opportunity to bid for the trees at the end of the evening (without decorations/lights/stand).
SPS Christmas Bake Off – returning with the Festival of Trees, is the equally popular Christmas Bake- Off competition. The children will have an opportunity to bake cakes or biscuits at home with a Christmas theme. We will have a special guest judge to pick a winner from each year group and a prize will be awarded. ‘COOK’ are once again supporting the event and we are incredibly grateful for their generosity.
The proceeds from the event will go towards the development of our sensory room.
Supporting children with allergies
A reminder! Sevenoaks Primary School is a nut-free school. Please DO NOT bring any item into school, which contains nuts. This includes any items donated for the Christmas Bazaar.
Can I please also remind parents to ensure that children attending school events wear the allergy bands/lanyards that have been provided for them?
We all have an important role to play in supporting the children and adults with allergies and I would ask for your cooperation in this important matter.
‘The Long Walk Home’ Just Giving page will close at the end of this week. The total raised to date is an amazing £7,322.00. This is the last fundraising event, which will be match-funded by the ‘Hands Trust’. There is still time to donate and if you would like to, please do so by Friday 23rd November. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/mrduffy-thelongwalkhome Thank you!
I am incredibly grateful for all your generous donations and apologise that I have not been able to respond individually.
I must also say a huge thank you to Julia and Guy Hands for their incredible support in delivering our new building.
SPSA non-uniform day – Friday, 23rd November
This Friday, children are invited to wear their own clothes to school in support of the SPSA Christmas Bazaar.
As a ‘fine’, please can children bring in the following donations on Friday:
- Foundation Stage / KS1 – a bottle of wine or similar. Where possible, we would be very grateful if you could take your bottle donation directly to the SPSA in the Studio.
- KS2 - £2 donation / chocolate gift. These can be given to the class teacher.
Thank you in advance for your support!

Visit from Cassandra Malone – Wednesday, 28th November
Following Mrs Malone’s recent letter to parents/carers, we are very much looking forward to her forthcoming visit to SPS on 28th November.
On that day, Mrs Malone will be available to welcome the children into school and she will welcome the opportunity to meet parents/carers, so please do say ‘hello’ if you can!
Phase 3 - creative activities in school
The children in Phase 3 are very busy getting creative in lessons – there is an abundance of cutting and sticking going on! As we rapidly approach Christmas, this will continue and we would be grateful, therefore, if the children could please bring in a glue stick for such activities. Thank you!
Award-winning wildlife photography – an amazing opportunity!
We have been extremely fortunate to have received donations of framed, award-winning photographs from the Comedy Wildlife Awards. We have a fantastic selection of winning photographs, all of which contain humorous images of wildlife, and are pleased to be able to offer them for sale at our Festival of Trees on Thursday, 13th December. All the photographs will be on display during the evening where you will be able to buy your own.
All the proceeds from the sale of the photographs will be going towards raising funds for our school sensory room so this is a great opportunity to both support our children as well as owning an amazing piece of art!
Here are just two examples of the photographs on offer:
Ollie Ireland Biking – opportunities for off-road biking
As you are probably aware, I run biking for pupils at your school. If your child would like to get involved in off-road biking out of school, please take a look at the following options:
For children and adults who have had some experience of mountain biking and want to develop their skills and enjoy new challenges, there is Samsara Bike Club .
For children of all abilities and experience, February half term biking sessions will be available at Sevenoaks Primary School.
For children who want to try BMX on a full-size track (includes specialist bike and helmet), the next BMX is on 3rd December (there is an adult and kids group and the track is floodlit). Bookings open 3 days before, pending the weather forecast.
