JULY - SEPTEMBER DIARY DATES
Last night I started to pack up my office. Like many jobs you are not looking forward to I have been putting it off, in part because it requires sorting out paperwork and odds and ends accumulated over the years, but also because I thought it might be a bit emotional.
Strangely enough, I needn’t have worried. It might have taken hours but I quite enjoyed the cathartic experience. I did get side tracked along the way looking at old photographs and DVDs and reminiscing and even discovered the original Headteacher’s Log. The first entry was dated the 8th January 1979 and the opening line read ‘Staff meeting attended by all 16 members of staff’! The school has come a long way since then.
I think the reason why I wasn’t emotional and why my current mood is so positive is because the memories provoked by the various photographs are all positive. The current school building has been our home for so many years and whilst I will be a little bit sad to close the doors for the last time, the emotion is outweighed by the memories and by the excitement of the journey ahead.
I hope this is the view of our Year 6 Leavers for 2017 and also the parents and staff leaving this year. The journey so far has been exciting but there are fresh adventures ahead for the Year 6 pupils and for SPS.
On behalf of everyone involved at SPS, I would like to wish the Class of 2017 and all our other leavers good luck and best wishes for all that lies ahead.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the departing parents for their support over the years. A major strength of SPS is the partnership between parents and the school which creates such a positive family atmosphere, and I would like to wish you all well for the future.
Individual thanks - I am reluctant to pick out individuals but on this occasion I feel it is justified. We have parents leaving this year that have gone above and beyond in terms of their commitment to the school and the impact that they have made for the benefit of your children.
Pui Jellett – Pui has been Chair of the SPSA during a key time in its life. We were set the challenge of raising over £500,000 towards the new build and Pui and her team of able and willing volunteers have worked tirelessly to achieve this goal. When you finally have the opportunity to see the new school, you will see that it was all worth it!
I would like to thank Pui on a personal level for the support and friendship that she has shown to me over the years. She can be immensely proud of her time as chair of SPSA and for the contribution she has made, not only to the new build but to enriching the lives of the current and future pupils of SPSA. Pui – you will be a hard act to follow!!
Jo Williams – Jo is another star of the parent body, who contributed significantly as Chair of the Parent Council. Amongst other things, she was involved in the development of the school Travel Plan and the consultation process, which resulted in the appointment of Accent as our new catering company. Jo has also attended numerous school events and she will be sorely missed!
The school now needs new Jos and Puis to continue the partnership and to help SPSA to go from strength to strength. All I can promise is that it will be enjoyable and rewarding. You be making a huge difference to the education of your own children and to the hundreds more that also attend the school.
I would like to wish you all a restful summer break, and I look forward to greeting you in September in the new school.
Collection of all medication on the last day
ALL medication MUST be collected from the school office at the end of the day on Friday 21st July by the parent/carer responsible for a child who has medication at school.
Please could we ask that you use the summer break to clean asthma pumps and check expiry dates on any medication, prior to returning them on the first day back for children, Wednesday 6th September.
Waitrose Green Coin Scheme
A huge thank you to all those who popped a Green Coin in the Sevenoaks Branch donation box for the school.
We will be receiving an incredible £214.00 from the store in the near future!
Thanks again to Mrs Wickenden, a parent from 3B, for organising this.
