Dear Parents/Carers,

The sun is shining, the sky is blue and the air conditioning is working overtime in the classrooms fortunate to have some! As a nation we excel at many things, but dealing with extreme weather conditions would not appear to be a strength! If it snows, the country comes to a standstill and with a week of hot weather, we struggle to cope. At SPS however, we view adversity as a challenge to be overcome and we keep working. That said, I am as delighted as anyone that the cooler weather has returned!

We are currently in the midst of an array of sporting events and the children continue to excel. It was brought to my attention that we had been remiss in not mentioning our Gold Sports Award. The award is in recognition of our curriculum sport, the numerous activities open to the children and our participation in competitive events.

It is a significant achievement as not many schools are given the award. I would like to thank all of the children, staff, the parent volunteers and the various local sporting clubs who have all contributed to our sporting success.

Sporting Achievements

Last year was our most successful sporting year, certainly in my time at the school, and I doubted that it would be possible to surpass our achievements. However, that is the challenge that I set the children at the beginning of the academic year and they have surpassed themselves.

The achievements for 2016-17 include (and we still have 4 weeks to go!!):
  • The Gold Award for sporting excellence
  • Winners of the Southern Region Hockey Championship
  • Under 11 Kent School Games Winners in Basketball
  • Current holders of the Kent School Games Cricket Trophy
  • Winners of the District Football Tournament and the Football League
  • 2nd in the Girls’ Football Tournament
  • 3 teams in the Kent School Games Gymnastics Final
  • Numerous gold, silver and bronze medals in Gymnastics competitions
  • Multi champions in Kent School Games Tennis Tournaments
  • 2nd in the District Swimming Gala
  • Rugby plate winners at a recent tournament

Think what we might have achieved if we were a competitive school!!

What a remarkable achievement and the children should be proud of themselves.

Alan Duffy

Car park spaces for staff use only
Please remember that the car park spaces are not for use by parents/carers. Our staff are finding it extremely difficult to park in the mornings, thus affecting their planning before school.
If you are dropping your child off for Breakfast Club, please use the clearly marked Drop Off Zone ONLY.
Please help us to win £5000 for the school library!
National Book Tokens are offering the opportunity for the school to win £5000 of book tokens. We need your help! To enter, simply complete the form using the link:
These meetings are designed for parents/carers to meet their child’s new teacher. It is a fantastic opportunity to ask any questions you might have, to hear about what they will be studying, plus any supplementary information that will be useful.

Open Afternoon invitation to ex pupils
We are holding our last ever Open Afternoon here on Wednesday 28th June from 3:30 – 4:30pm.
If you know of any ex pupils that might want to take a look around the old building before it disappears, please do let them know that they will be warmly welcomed!
IMPORTANT: Changes to school access points
The new build is progressing extremely well and due to finish this term. They are ahead of schedule in terms of external resurfacing, and as a result the access arrangements around the school will change earlier than anticipated.
From Friday 23rd June onwards, the fence line leading up from the front car park will be moved to abut the brick wall at the front car park, which will prohibit ‘accessible’ access to the preschool and to Acorns. Ie. no buggies etc. There will be still pedestrian access using the steps to the side of the school entrance and the top pathway, but this will be unsuitable for any child in a buggy.
From Friday onwards, parents requiring access to Preschool and Acorns should use the side entrance in Bradbourne Road or the Adult Education entrance. This will be the permanent arrangement going forward.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and the short notice in terms of communication but we have only just been advised by Bowmer & Kirkland.
Accent Catering Competition
Thank you to everyone who entered the Accent Catering quiz and colouring competitions. There were lots of lovely coloured pineapples and it was difficult to choose, but the winner was Anna in 2C. A number of children correctly answered all the questions and, the winner, Eve in 5A, was drawn at random. Both children will receive a £5 book token from Accent Catering.
This month’s fruit is the strawberry, and a new quiz and colouring competition were sent out separately. Paper copies can also be collected from main reception.
The closing date for entries is Friday 30th June.
Tennis triumphs!
The school has recently enjoyed a run of tennis success.
On 26th May two teams travelled to Bromley High School to compete in the Boys’ Orange ball Kent Schools Team Competition. Both teams performed fantastically, with Sevenoaks 1 reaching the final.
The team completed a great day by beating Lady Joanna Thornhill 4-2 and were duly crowned county champions. Players’ success on the court was only matched by praise off the court by organisers and rivals alike for their sportsmanship, fair play and kindness. A special thank you goes to Mr Thorburn who stepped in at the last minute as team leader.
The afternoon saw the Green ball team take to the court. Again, all the players performed exceptionally well. Everyone contributed to a great team ethos, no more so than during the 3-3 draw with St Michael’s which was won by just 3 points on count back. This helped the team get through to the final where they narrowly missed out to St Stephen’s in a close, competitive match.
Congratulations to all the boys – Charlie H, Charlie B, Stefan, Angus, Andrew, Danny, Emile, Alfie, Jack, William, Sam and Ollie.
Tennis again – gold medals!
Two of our Year 2 doubles pairs participated in the Russell House Tennis Competition on 20th June. They all played superbly, with George and Charlie emerging as winners! A huge well done to Tom and Elias too, for terrific sportsmanship.
Pictured are our Gold medallists George and Charlie.
