Term 3 is traditionally devoted to self-evaluation at Sevenoaks Primary School. It is an opportunity to celebrate not only our successes but also to identify those areas where we feel we could improve. It is important that we look at the school at all angles and listen to everyone involved at SPS.
Therefore, to ensure it is a meaningful and all-encompassing process we involve the entire SPS ‘family’ which includes the children, parents, staff and governors in a variety of ways including drop-ins and interviews.
We are also going to be asking all parents/carers to complete an online questionnaire. The questions have been drawn up in consultation with the Parent Council and the Governing Body to ensure they reflect the issues that are important to you. Please look out for an email with a link today, this will allow you to have your say.
Your feedback is invaluable to us and we would like to take into account the views of the majority of parents so that we can make informed decisions about any future improvements.
There are just 10 questions so please take a little time to give us your feedback. Please complete the questionnaire by Friday 5 February 2016.
Better Body Group
This week we are greeting one of our new sponsors. We are delighted to have established such a positive relationship with the Better Body Group team and we are looking forward to developing our work with them in the future.
The BBG are already working miracles by supporting your aging head teacher to regain his former ‘super fit’ status. I have been going to the gym since Term 6 and have now become addicted. The team are fantastic and since the New Year, I have persuaded 13 other brave souls from SPS to join me on a Wednesday evening for an hour of ‘fun’.
A number of parents expressed an interest in visiting the Better Body Shop and I am happy to facilitate a ‘free’ taster session one evening if there is sufficient interest or you can take advantage of the 60 min free trial (leaflet will be delivered by the children in their book bags today).
Do look out for other articles throughout the year on our other sponsors.
It is our aim to ensure that Sevenoaks Primary School is safe, happy and welcoming for everyone. The priority is the safety of the children and our security protocol has been devised for their benefit, therefore we ask for your support in implementing the following:
All parents/carers that need to enter the buildings MUST ONLY come to the Main Office entrance, report to Mrs Potter (Attendance/Receptionist), sign in the visitor’s book and wear a visitor’s badge at all times
Volunteer readers/helpers must also sign in at the Main Office and wear an appropriate identification badge at all times
Staff members must be the ONLY PEOPLE who allow adults to enter the school building by the front door. Please DO NOT press the door release button to let someone in, or allow your child to do so.
All parents/carers should make an appointment to meet with a member of staff and should follow the same procedures as above
If you have any concerns regarding security, please speak to the Assistant Head Teachers or the Head Teacher.
We ask everyone to be patient – good security can be frustrating!

What an absolute pleasure to be sponsoring the school this year. For those of you that don’t already know us, we are the team of exercise professionals that will finally get you some results! Mrs Edwards’ charity Hair Cut
We are sure many of you will have seen the coverage in the Sevenoaks Chronicle on Mrs Edwards’ hair cut for the charity Little Princess Trust. This was set up in memory of a little girl called Hannah Tarplee by her parents, school and friends, who sadly lost her battle with cancer in 2005.
So far, she has managed to raise an astounding £887.00 This is a huge sum of money which will go a long way in helping those children in need.
Mrs Edwards would like to thank everybody for all the overwhelming support.
Midday Supervisors urgently required
We are currently advertising for Midday Supervisors. The role is varied, challenging and, in particular, rewarding. The children enjoy their lunchtimes and the opportunity to play with their peers and this is a wonderful opportunity to mentor them and assist them in the playground.
The positions are for term time only, 1.5 hours per day. For further details please contact Mrs Wood in the Finance Office.
Thank you to all who donate their spare time helping out at school. Your time here is very much appreciated.
The school has recently updated the Volunteer Policy, and we ask that all volunteers take a few moments to read through the documentation on the link below:
Stonepitts Christmas Trees
Thank you everyone who chose to buy their Christmas Tree from Stonepitts Farm last Christmas.
The school raised £32.00 by doing so, and the money goes towards the Help for Heroes charity.

Family Learning Session handouts on school website
Thank you to all those who attended last week’s Family Learning Sessions on Assessment in the New Curriculum. We hope that you found the sessions helpful in assisting your child as we move from the old to the new levelling system.
For your information, and in particular for those parents/carers who were unable to attend, the general presentation at the start can be found using the following link:

Year 6 pupil also gets the chop for charity!
Last Christmas, Keira in 6B heard about the Little Princess Trust and was truly inspired by the stories of people who had donated towards this cause. This was before she had even heard that Mrs Edwards was also planning to get her hair cut!
Keira decided that she would continue to grow her hair “to make wigs for the children who don’t have hair.”
Well, today, Keira came into school with not only a beautiful new hairstyle, but has also donated an incredible 22cm of her hair to the Trust.
Well done, Keira!
Meet and Practice English at Sevenoaks Library
We have been contacted by a group of volunteers who run adult conversation sessions at Sevenoaks Library, for people whose first language is not English.
They would like to invite any parents/carers, au pairs etc. to the sessions which are held on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 10:00 – 11:30am during school term time.
They would be interested in finding out how many adults at our school might benefit from coming to these free informal drop-in sessions.
If you would like to attend, please could you let the school office know by email at: firstname.lastname@example.org
We can then let them know the level of interest from here.
