Welcome back!

I hope you all enjoyed the Bank Holiday weekend and took the opportunity to spend time with people you care about.

Thank you for all the positive feedback with regards to our school uniform update. I value your support on this and look forward to hearing the children’s thoughts.

The new catering company are settling in well and the children are providing me with regular updates on their lunches. They particularly like the new jacket potatoes and how they are cooked. The feedback I have received from the caterers is testament to your children. They commented on how very polite and well-mannered they are. I am very proud to be their Headteacher.

Hockey Matches: A Busy Term!

On Thursday, 25th April, a team of six Year 5 children attended a hockey competition at Hollybush.

There were ten schools in our League and our feisty Year 5 children were up against a few Year 6 teams.

We played seven games in total - losing three, drawing two and winning two.  The children gave it their all with every match and worked well together: they even worked their own game plan by deciding who would be playing in defence, midfield and attack, and adjusting their positions for each match.

The children were a credit to themselves and the school.  Well done to Fergus, Millie S, Sophie S, Henry N, William C and Daniel G.


On Thursday, 2nd May, it was the turn of 18 children from Year 4 to take part in a tournament at Knole Academy. This time, we had three teams of six children.  Each team played six matches before torrential rain stopped play! 

At the end of play, Team 3 had won all of their matches and went through to the final against Amherst Primary School.  Even though SPS played a brilliant and determined game, we lost 3-1. But, what a huge achievement to make it to the final!

Marvellous Marathon Runners!

The children and staff at SPS are an active bunch but did you know that we have staff members who are marathon runners?!

Mr Walker (Phase 2 Leader and Class Teacher in 2C), Mrs Ferrison (Class Teacher in 2B) and Mrs Potter (Receptionist and Attendance Officer) all ran the London Marathon on Sunday, 28th April. Mr Walker and Mrs Ferrison have both run marathons before but this was Mrs Potter’s first attempt. All three of them completed the race, with varying times – what an amazing achievement!

Not only are we all extremely proud of our fantastic team but Mrs Ferrison and Mrs Potter also raised money for BUST (Breast Cancer Unit Support Trust) and the Meningitis Research Foundation, respectively. A huge ‘thank you’ to those of you who donated; it was a real boost to the runners as they battled through the 26.2 miles to the end. If you would like to make a donation, please go to and

An amazing team effort for SPS!

Working Party: Saturday, 15th June

The Working Party has been re-scheduled to Saturday, 15th June, from 12.00pm to 5.00pm.

Thank you to those of you who have already kindly offered your help. We would be very grateful for more help from staff, parents / carers and children to tackle some of the works to our grounds that are labour intensive and, as such, would cost a large amount of our budget to complete – money that we would much rather spend on the children.

The areas we would like to focus on are:

  • Painting KS1 playground
  • Completing the KS1 allotment area
  • Installing matting on the slope up to the middle field
  • Building benches to install around the playgrounds
  • Completing matting and beds around the new Gazebo

If you are able to offer any time on this day to help with these works, we would be grateful if you could let us know via so that we can get an idea of numbers.

SPS Midday Supervisor – Vacancy

SPSA: Film Night – Saturday, 18th May

Mary Poppins Returns will be showing at the forthcoming SPSA Film Night. Tickets are £5 per child and tuck and soft drinks will be available. Adults can ‘bring your own’ alcohol - corkage charge will apply.

Please note that Foundation and KS1 children need to be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the film. KS2 children do not need an adult present for the evening. This event is for SPS children only.

Tickets are on sale now via Classlist.  Classlist is the new secure online parent and SPSA community app for online ticket sales, information sharing and general connections. You may have seen the FAQs which were sent out last week, by email. Please do sign up - it will be a really useful way of staying in touch with school and class events - and can be used by members to exchange information on homework / costumes / class trips, topics not open for discussion on the SPSA Facebook page, etc. It will also make the lives of Class Reps and the SPSA simpler!

Uniform Shop

The Uniform Shop will be open again on Monday, 13th May from 9.00am to 10.00am.

Year 3 & 4 Inter House Tournament – Revised Date                                  

As the Year 3 & 4 Inter-House Tournament had to be cancelled today due to inclement weather, this has been re-scheduled for the morning of Wednesday, 22nd May. Please ensure your child comes to school with the following:

PE kit, House (colour) t-shirt, named water bottle, coat / sun-tan cream / hat, as appropriate, for whatever the weather throws at us!
                      Holmes / Wilberforce / Stephens / Brunel / Darwin / Rowling

Save The Date! Friday, 14th June: Year 5 & 6 Sleepover

The annual, and extremely popular, Year 5 & 6 Sleepover will be taking place on Friday, 14th June.

Details and an application form are to follow and the event will run from 7.00pm on Friday evening to 8.00am on Saturday morning.
