Dear Parents/Carers,
May I take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy New Year! I hope that you have all enjoyed a wonderful Christmas break with your families.
I am very excited to have joined you all this year. I have been welcomed by everyone involved in the school and would like to thank you all for making my first few days so enjoyable.
The new year brings many thoughts of resolutions and opportunities to reflect on our own motivations and personal development. We have explored this in school this week.
The children shared with me their thoughts about how we make people feel welcome in our school and classrooms. You will not be surprised by their wonderful responses! The simplest, but definitely my personal favourite, was to offer everyone a smile as they walk around the school.
I am sure that you will agree that offering a smile is a great start to the year and I look forward to seeing many more this week!
Best wishes,
Mrs. C Malone
Head Teacher
We are very pleased to welcome our new Head Teacher, Mrs. Malone!
If you haven’t had a chance to meet her yet, here is a short introduction to Mrs. Malone’s recent, professional career:
Mrs. Malone has joined Sevenoaks Primary School following an extremely successful headship of the Barnehurst Federation of Schools. She joined the Federation in 2011, and moved from the position of Deputy Head to the Headteacher of both schools in April 2015.
Since becoming a Head Teacher, she has led the Federation through an ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted, achieving outstanding gradings in every aspect of the school. Her leadership style focusses on the development of people and teams through bespoke coaching and personalised CPD, with everything being underpinned by a commitment to the very highest standards.
She is committed to high standards for all children, supported by a strong community ethos. She is MBTi trained and qualified and has supported the development of coaching cultures. She frequently works with other school leaders on moving aspects of school improvement forward.
Carol Service at St. John’s Church
The children and staff enjoyed the wonderful carol services on the last day of term before Christmas and it was lovely to see so many parents, carers, relatives and friends listening to readings from the children and singing carols together.
We have received a letter from Father Matthew saying what a pleasure it was to host SPS and thanking everyone for attending both services.
As you know, there was a retiring collection and Father Matthew has informed us that a total of £751.67 was raised for the homeless charity, Crisis. Thank you to everyone who donated to this important cause.
Mrs Potter’s Christmas Trail
Well done to all the children who took part in the Christmas Trail during the Festival of Trees. We had three winners – Ella (1B), Hugo (4A) and Billy (3B).
Congratulations!
SPSA KS2 Disco - Friday 18th January - 6.30-8.00pm
Tickets for the KS2 Disco can be purchased on the door (no sales in advance). Hot food and glow toys will be available on the night!
Cake Competition!
Those who enjoy baking (as well as those with a sweet tooth!), will remember the cake competition that was held on the day of the Festival of Trees.
The lucky judges, Mrs Williams, Mr Logsdon and Mrs Cunnington had the task of tasting all of the entries and, after much munching, they picked the following winners:
Phase 1: Madeleine (Leopards)
Phase 2: Alexander (2B) and Anaiya (2A)
Phase 3: William (5B)
Many congratulations to our winners and thank you to everyone who baked their own, amazing cakes!
Budding performers!
We are delighted that a member of our staff, plus some of our children, will be performing in the Sevenoaks Entertainers’ version of Sleeping Beauty, at the Stag Theatre.
They will be appearing in the shows on 24th, 26th and 27th January. If you would like to go along and support them, please refer to the flyer that your child will be bringing home today.
We wish all the performers the very best of luck!
