The Mr Duffy Challenge
I am proposing to walk to the majority of schools in the Sevenoaks Partnership (30 ish!) promoting the Walk to School campaign whilst also raising money for our new building.
I know this will be hard to believe because of my youthful disposition and general appearance but I celebrated my 50th birthday earlier in the year. This is also my 15th year at Sevenoaks Primary School and I have decided to mark the occasion of both by doing something a little bit special, which will hopefully give something back to the school but also promote a cause which I think is important.
At the beginning of the year we commenced the Walk to School Campaign (WOW!) to support the local environment/community and to increase the daily exercise undertaken by our children. We are also in the midst of our fundraising campaign for the new build and I thought it would be a good idea to combine the two.
The Challenge
I am proposing to walk to the majority of schools in the Sevenoaks Partnership (30 ish!) promoting the Walk to School campaign whilst also raising money for our new building. The distance I am planning to walk is approximately 50 miles (a mile for every year!) and I am hoping to complete the challenge in 2 days, legs permitting!
This would be a challenge at any stage in my life and I am now 50 and definitely not as fit as I used to be. However, I think it is worth the effort and if it encourages more children to walk then it will be worthwhile.
How can you support?
A number of staff/parents have offered to walk with me for some of the way but the main way that you can show your support is by sponsoring me. This is a once in a lifetime (unless I get to 100!) challenge and it is not something I envisage repeating. We have set up a Just Giving site (see below) to collect donations and I will also be on the prowl during the Christmas Bazaar and other school events seeking out your support.

When?
The final date is yet to be pencilled in to the diary but, weather permitting, I am planning to complete the challenge in Term 3 or 4.
I would be genuinely grateful for any contribution you can make to support ‘The Mr Duffy Challenge’.
Many thanks
Alan Duffy
