Great Maths Race Success

Congratulations to our amazing mathematicians who attended the Great Maths Race on 28.06.2017
On 28th June, two teams from SPS took part in the Walthamstow Hall Great Maths Race.
This is an annual maths competition where 14 schools compete against the clock to answer 20 mathematical problems in 30 mins! Each correct answer scores 5 points - maximum points therefore are 100. It is a fast and furious event where each team has to choose a runner who, when the team have answered the problem, has to 'run' it to their designated Marker (a sixth former at the school).
The Marker will then say if it's correct or not. If not, the team can choose to try again or pass on the question, but once passed, they cannot have it back. Team strategy becomes very important here as you don't want to pass on too many questions, but equally, you don't want to keep trying one question for too long!
Our teams did fantastically.
Our Year 4 team did themselves proud. They scored an extremely respectable 75 points, coming second overall, with the winning school scoring only 5 points (one question) more.
Our Year 5 team scored 100 points !!! They answered every question correctly, which has never been done before in the 13 year history of the Maths Race - wow! Not only that, they even had 8 minutes to spare.
Huge congratulations to both teams for their amazing efforts.
