National primary schools' chess competition zonal on Saturday 04.03.17
Congratulations to the SPS Chess teams who had a fun and very successful day at the National Primary Schools' chess competition zonal on Saturday 4th March. It was held at Wouldham Primary School near Aylesford. There were three other schools competing and an additional 'aardvark' team to make up a four-team double all play all competition (this means they played each team twice - so every player had six games of chess throughout the day).
The U11 team easily won their section with some great chess games and some of our players were undefeated throughout the day.
All from year five, the U11 team were: Danny O, William J, Edward N, Toby N, Ollie D, Edward E and Charlie P.
The U9 team also did really well in their section and got second place, just losing out on winning the section by two points.
This was a great achievement for the young team as they were all playing against older opponents. The U9 team were: Scarlet W, Lucas O, Ella F, George C, Alex N and Misha P.
Both teams have now qualified for the National schools' competition semi-finals which will be held at Pontins, Camber Sands, over a weekend at the end of May.
