Dear Parents/Carers,

What a lovely week we have had!

It was brilliant to see so many of you at the Summer Fair and to chat with you about some of the changes in school - your positive feedback was really appreciated. A huge ‘thank you’ to the SPSA for making the Summer Fair a success. I really enjoyed the day and hope you did, too.

I visited the local residents’ Strawberry Tea after the Fair to talk about SPS and how we are moving forward; you will be pleased to hear that they were extremely encouraging and also agreed to support our ‘20’s Plenty’ campaign!

Our grounds work is moving forward, too, and I hope that you can see some improvements around the site. We aim to complete the next stage during the summer holidays.

Wishing you a wonderful week ahead.

Best wishes,
Mrs Malone
Head Teacher

‘Team, Courage and Perseverance’

On Thursday, 27th June, children from Years 3 and 4 participated in an Inclusive Paralympic Festival at Sevenoaks School.

Throughout the day, the children took part in lots of different sports events and each one received a certificate for their efforts. Our SPS Team showed ‘Team, Courage and Perseverance’ values and we are really proud of them for representing themselves and their school so admirably.

School Play Equipment

At drop-off and pick-up time, may we politely ask that younger siblings do not play with school playtime equipment. Pathways adjacent to the playgrounds have, on occasion, become blocked with equipment which has been played with and not put away.

Thank you for your help in keeping the pathways and playgrounds safe and clear.

SPS Midday Supervisor – Vacancy

We currently have a vacancy for a Midday Supervisor. 1 ½ hours per day, term-time only, starting in September 2019.

                              The Great Maths Race

On Wednesday, 19th June, eight children from Year 4 and Year 5 competed in the Great Maths Race which took place at Walthamstow Hall School. We left school at 1.15pm and walked up to Walthamstow Hall.

Fourteen schools participated in total.  The Year 4s competed first, followed by the Year 5s. The way it works is you have thirty minutes to answer twenty questions. When you first sit down at your table, there is an envelope placed in the centre of the table. Once the timer starts, you must take your first question out of the envelope. When you have answered the question, the runner in your group must run to your sixth-former marker where a correct answer scores you five points.

The Maths Race was great fun, although the maths was quite challenging, but all in all we enjoyed the afternoon and then were given chocolate biscuits!

Parent ‘Meet the Teacher’ Dates

Parent ‘Meet the Teacher’ meetings will be held in the Dining Hall and are an opportunity for parents/carers to meet their child’s new teacher/s, hear about what will be studied during the year and ask any questions.

Monday, 8th July: 9.00 – 9.30am                    Foundation Stage moving to Year 1
Tuesday, 9th July: 9.00 – 9.30am                    Year 3 moving to Year 4
Wednesday, 10th July: 9.00 – 9.30am            Year 2 moving to Year 3

A leaflet containing useful information will be produced for each year group. This will also be available on the school website after each meeting.

Idling Cars On-Site – Let’s Keep The Air Clean!

When dropping off and picking up in the school car park and surrounding roads, we respectfully ask that car engines are switched off.

As everyone will agree, we wish to keep air pollution around school to a minimum and switching off engines will help to achieve this.

Thank you for your understanding.

Red Doubles Champions for the Second Year Running!

This June, Kent Tennis hosted the Kent Schools Annual Tennis Doubles Championships at Bromley Tennis Centre. SPS entered 11 pairs into the qualifying rounds, where they fought for their place in the top eight and an invitation to return to the finals.

Of these, six pairs secured their place in the finals and a chance to play the best schools’ doubles pairs in the county. Players were grouped into boxes before being placed in a two-way draw to determine finishing places and find the Championship Pair.

Our Red Boys played magnificently and secured a win over The New Beacon, once again winning the title for our school. Our Green and Orange boys both came 4th, while our other pairs were placed 5th, 7th and 8th in Kent. Fantastic results!

Once again, it has been a wonderful year of tennis at SPS with all the ups and downs of competition, lots of fun and laughter and many friendships being renewed and made. Thanks go to all the teachers, parents and West Heath Tennis Centre for the help and support to allow tennis to continue to flourish at our school.

Nourish Catering – 5-star Rating!

The Food Hygiene Rating Scheme operates nationally and is designed to give consumers information about the hygiene standards in food outlets.  The Environmental Health Officer carries out regular inspections of three main areas:

  • Compliance with food hygiene and safety procedures
  • Compliance with structural requirements
  • Confidence in management/control procedure

The rating is from 0 to 5, with 5 being the highest score, and this is what Sevenoaks Primary School kitchen has achieved. Fantastic!

Here is a message from Julie Watson, Food Development Executive at Nourish Catering:

‘Nourish Contract Catering are proud to be the school catering provider for Sevenoaks Primary School.  We currently provide the catering for 120 schools, mainly in Kent, and predominantly primary schools.  We also provide the catering for a few secondary schools, special needs schools and care homes.  We are committed to providing a satisfying and nutritious meal at lunchtimes to fuel the children for the day and aid their concentration in the classroom.’

20’s Plenty Petition Launched

Our parent led Road Safety Group is helping to ensure a safe and healthy journey to Sevenoaks Primary School, for everyone. This weekend, it successfully launched a campaign to reduce the speed limits along Bradbourne Road and Bradbourne Park Road, for a safe route to school for all children and their families.

1000 signatures are needed to have this petition raised at the next Kent County Council meeting on Sunday, 8th September and, in just three days, they’ve reached 350.  With 600 children at Sevenoaks Primary School, if just one adult and a friend from each home signed the petition, the target would be reached!  To be eligible to sign, you simply have to live or work in Kent, and be over 18 years old.

If you’ve not already signed the paper copy at the School Fair, please add your signature to the online petition where you will find more information on the campaign.  You can also find more details by visiting our website School Road Safety Campaign - Sevenoaks Primary School

Thank you for your support in this important initiative.
