Pupil Leadership

Here at Sevenoaks Primary School, we believe that pupil leadership is important in shaping a positive and inclusive school community. By giving children opportunities to take on responsibilities, we empower them to develop confidence, independence and a strong sense of belonging. Our Phase 3 children are keen to support the younger children and are good role models for our values of team and kindness.
Our pupil leadership groups have evolved over the years and link closely to our school development plan. We now have a number of pupil groups in which children, elected by their classes, represent them on one of the committees.
House captains
12 Year 6 children chosen by the Phase 3 teachers. There are two children for each of the six houses. The children take a lead on sports days and speak about their inspirational house character in assemblies.
Eco committee
Children from Y2-6 are elected by their class to be part of the committee. Having gained the eco schools’ award, the team work on our eco values in school such as saving energy, recycling and bio-diversity. They also help to educate others through presentation in assembly.
Playtime Helpers
Year 6 children volunteer to help weekly on the Reception and the Year 1&2 playground at lunchtime. Wearing high viz vests, they lead playground games, support children to find others to play with and in doing so, form lovely relationships with the younger children who look up to them.
Well-being ambassadors
Children from Y2-6 are elected by their class to represent them in this team. The ambassadors discuss being role models to other pupils by demonstrating our school values and provide peer to peer support on the playground through restorative practice. They also promote the 6 Ways to Wellbeing by running different activities each term (i.e., the Christmas Kindness Advent Calendar) They share ideas to promote positive mental health and wellbeing for our school community
Breakfast Club Leaders
Some of the older children are responsible for supporting the YR-2 children with their breakfast and play and then organising them and leading them up to class ready for the day.
