Dear Parents/Carers,

Who needs the World Cup or Wimbledon when you have Sports Days, District Sports and the array of other sporting events which the children are currently enjoying?!

The academic year is filled with various competitions, but the summer term is especially busy. Last week, the Key Stage 2 children enjoyed an epic Sports Morning with the usual mix of competitive races, interspersed with the traditional ‘egg and spoon’ and ‘three legged’ races.

The children were brilliant, as usual, and displayed the customary competitiveness balanced with sportsmanship, which is the hallmark of our school approach to sport.

A huge thank you to the PE Department, led so ably by Mrs Godman and to the Key Stage 2 staff. A special mention to Mrs Alexander who proved a much more capable and entertaining announcer than we are used to!

Our sporting enjoyment continued yesterday evening when we attended, with over 20 local primary schools, the annual District Sports event at Knole Academy.  Well done and thank you to Miss Fearfield for organising and coaching our team of nearly 40 children who came 4th in the large school category.

Next week, we are looking forward to the Key Stage 1 Sports Morning and Foundation Stage Sports Afternoon, where I’m sure we will see the children taking part and enjoying sport with the same enthusiasm and team spirit.

Sports Days Event Information Reminder

All children to wear PE kit to school with coloured House T shirt, Foundation Stage will be informed in the near future (see below), sun screen already applied,  sun hat and water bottle (no glass bottles or fizzy drinks).  Parents/carers are very welcome to come along!

Bojangles will be providing hot drinks and snacks at all events – look out for their van on the top field!

5B Class Assembly

Class 5B will be reciting poetry from memory (part of the English curriculum) for parents/carers, grandparents and other family members who are welcome to come along and enjoy this recital.

Parent ‘meet the teacher’ meetings will be held in the dining hall and are an opportunity for parents/carers to meet their child’s new teacher/s, hear about what will be studied during the year and ask any questions.

Funky Footwear Friday
 
Message from Year 3 to whole school parents/carers -
As part of Year 3's Personal, Social, Health and Education (PSHE) for this term, the children are learning about contributing to the local community and the impact of fundraising.  We are always keen to make learning as real as possible for the children, in order for them to see the impact of their work, so we thought it would be more meaningful for them if we put on a fundraising event for a local charity.
We were very inspired by the recent Family Learning Session and staff training on 'Resuscitation and Immediate Life Support', delivered by our very own Year 3 parent, Andrew Al-Rais. Andrew works for the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance, who provide such a vital service, but as a charitable organisation, they rely almost entirely on voluntary donations for their work.
The Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance attends incidents that could happen to anyone, anywhere, during their everyday life, whether that be an adult’s drive to work or a child’s journey to school.  The fact that the medical teams are able to provide this essential life-saving service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, is remarkable and a service that we are all extremely grateful for.
We would therefore really appreciate your support on

We would like to invite all children to wear their own shoes from home, odd shoes, mad socks, crazy laces - there is no one set rule when it comes to being ‘funky’!
The donation is voluntary, but whatever you feel you could contribute would be much appreciated.
Hopefully this will not require too much time on your part - and no new purchases are necessary!

Kent Primary Schools Team Tennis Competition
 
Historically, SPS has performed well at the annual Kent Primary Schools Team Tennis Competition and this year was no exception. Four Boys’ Teams and two Girls’ Teams hit the courts for some competitive matches. The standard was high but all children demonstrated determination and fair play throughout their events. The Boys’ Red Team came second, just losing out to The New Beacon in the final, while the Boys’ Green Team made the semi-finals before losing in a very close match against Russell House. The Girls’ event was equally tough and our players had some fantastic results against some very strong opponents.
 
SPS also entered three mixed teams into a local tennis festival hosted by Hollybush Tennis Club. Following a hot afternoon of tennis, SPS were awarded a thoroughly deserved second place. SPS is lucky to have such a great tennis squad, well done to you all!
